"Pieces of metal" were reportedly discovered within product that was possibly shipped to multiple types of customers in five states.

More Than 1,000 Pounds of Ground Beef Recalled at the Nation’s Highest Risk Level

With students across the country returning to school in the coming weeks, a new meat recall involves a company that may supply schools, as well as healthcare and restaurant facilities.
On Tuesday afternoon, an alert from the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall for what’s said to be approximately 1,065 pounds of “a fully cooked frozen ground beef product.” The recalling firm, Michigan-based Ada Valley Meat Company, reportedly shipped the product to “establishments and distributors in California, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.” It is not clear whether these were distributed beyond the borders of these states.
Per the FSIS, the ground beef product may be contaminated with “foreign material, specifically metal” after “pieces of metal” were first reported by a consumer. No injuries have been confirmed related to the recall, according to the report.
The Ada Valley Meat Company appears to supply food products to organizations within the K-12 school setting (saying they offer “low sodium meats that will provide great sources of protein” for children), healthcare organizations, and restaurant industries. A company website suggests they sell cooked ground beef and “beef crumbles” to all three types of these businesses.
The recall has been labeled as “HIGH – Class I”—the FSIS explains that Class I recalls involve “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
The ground beef was reportedly packaged on May 28 and 30 of this year. The FSIS also provided the following product details:
- 20-lb. cardboard box cases containing four 5-lb. plastic bags of “Ada Valley FULLY COOKED GROUND BEEF”
- Pack Date 5/28/25 with lot code 35156 or Pack Date 5/30/25 with lot code 35157 represented on the label
- Establishment number “EST. 10031” inside the USDA mark of inspection
The FSIS also cautions that “some of the recalled products could bear a different establishment number on the label due to further distribution and processing by other establishments” and encourages consumers to carefully review the provided information.
A product label image was also provided by the FSIS.
Warning that the frozen ground beef could be in “institutional freezers,” the agency recommends the product be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
